“We demand the immediate removal of the video”

The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women has issued a statement expressing its outrage at the allegedly humorous video on the Internet, which is in fact a direct propaganda of violence against women.

The statement, in particular, reads:

Recently, a humorous video was posted on the Facebook social network, in which the image of a woman trying to hide the bruises she received as a result of domestic violence is being played. While the woman shares her experience in the shot, a scene of violence is shown, where the partner hits the woman with a heavy tool and knocks her to the ground, voicing domestic demands.

The release of such videos is extremely dangerous at a time when global and domestic violence is on the rise around the world due to restrictions on coronavirus. It is no exception that the state of emergency declared in Armenia and the fight against coronavirus (COVID-19) increases the risk of domestic violence, especially among women, children and the elderly, which is due to isolation, lack of employment, social connections, and limited access to telephone. .

It is even more problematic when such videos are shot and published by humorous actors, making humor spiced with elements of violence and discrimination a subject of public celebration. Unfortunately, humor is often a means of discrimination, stereotypes, and violence. Such videos contribute to the normalization of domestic violence and give a humorous tone to the unacceptable human rights crimes, making them acceptable and even amusing. ”

The Coalition to Stop Violence against Women expresses its indignation at this video, as well as the publication of similar videos, and demands that it be immediately removed from the Internet.

P.S. WomenNet.am, sharing the indignation over this vulgar video, which is far from being called “humor”, can’t help but express concern over the comments of some female users, saying that in the case of bruises, not a green but a yellow corrector must be used”… Sober up, my dear ones… It’s about women’s dignity…
