They are role models to those around them, often shattering stereotypes and working with others to achieve a more equitable world. They are the embodiment of why gender equality matters. They should not have to work harder than men and boys to make a contribution or to be recognized for their achievements.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The women and girls who rise up for a better world, and the men and boys who support and stand with them, are superheroes in their own right.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Providing equal rights and opportunities will unleash the power and potential of women and girls everywhere. And we have to, because it\u2019s our only pathway to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and leaving no one behind by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On 21 October 2016, the character of Wonder Woman will be designated as Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls, in support of Sustainable Development Goal 5 \u2013 to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Wonder Woman campaign will highlight what we can collectively achieve if women and girls are empowered \u2013 along with examples of women and girls who have made and are making a difference every day by overcoming barriers and beating the odds to reach their goals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The campaign is about\u00a0women and girls everywhere, who are wonder women in their own right, and the men and boys who support their struggle for gender equality, bringing about positive change\u00a0in their homes, workplace, communities, countries and the world together.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/wonderwoman\/\">UN.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"newstxt\">&nbsp; Women and girls all over the world are overcoming barriers and beating the odds to reach their goals, while contributing their knowledge, ideas and skills to society.
