In case of domestic violence, protection of victims and their safety is our primary task \u2013 such an opinion was expressed by the lawyer of the Women’s support center Nonna Galstyan during the discussion on the theme \u00abdomestic violence and law enforcement actions\u00bb held at Media center.<\/p>\n

\u00abWhen the case of domestic violence happens, the victim, according to the law, has the right to inform law enforcement bodies up to the certain measures against perpetrators. But there is a problem here \u2013 even at this stage harassment and threats against the victim do not stop, which are mainly aimed at the victim’s health, security and life, -described the problem the lawyer.<\/p>\n

According to her, in this case, the victim and protecting side appear in the deadlock. They alert the police but say that there is no loss, no crime. And they answer. \u00abSorry, but we cannot do anything at this point\u00bb. Thus, the victim remains without defend, living in fear, and should have so much will power to be able to pursue defense of her rights.<\/p>\n

The lawyer pointed out another important issue \u2013 approach of the court or other law enforcement body to victims of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

These events are not perceived proportionately. Jealousy or other subsequent reason can cause disproportionate punishment of perpetrators, or that they can avoid punishment, – said Nonna Galstyan.<\/p>\n
