{"id":19655,"date":"2015-01-27T11:48:03","date_gmt":"2015-01-27T11:48:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/archive.womennet.am?p=19655"},"modified":"2015-02-01T22:34:42","modified_gmt":"2015-02-01T22:34:42","slug":"%d5%a1%d5%b8%d6%82%d5%b7%d5%be%d5%ab%d6%81-70-%d6%83%d6%80%d5%af%d5%be%d5%a1%d5%ae%d5%b6%d5%a5%d6%80%d5%ab-%d5%a1%d5%a6%d5%a1%d5%bf%d5%b8%d6%82%d5%a9%d5%b5%d5%b8%d6%82%d5%b6%d5%a8-%d5%af%d5%b5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.womennet.am\/en\/%d5%a1%d5%b8%d6%82%d5%b7%d5%be%d5%ab%d6%81-70-%d6%83%d6%80%d5%af%d5%be%d5%a1%d5%ae%d5%b6%d5%a5%d6%80%d5%ab-%d5%a1%d5%a6%d5%a1%d5%bf%d5%b8%d6%82%d5%a9%d5%b5%d5%b8%d6%82%d5%b6%d5%a8-%d5%af%d5%b5\/","title":{"rendered":"Auschwitz 70: \u201cLiberty, Life and Legacy of the Holocaust Survivors\u055a"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>The Secretary General \u00a0Message on \u00a0the \u00a0International Day of Commemoration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>in memory of the victims of the Holocaust<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.womennet.amwp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/holocaust_remembrance_logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Seventy years ago today, allied forces liberated Auschwitz Birkenau, the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More than a million inmates, primarily Jews, were brutally and systematically killed in the place where the Nazis introduced the monstrous concept of \u201cindustrialized murder\u201d.\u00a0 Among the other victims were non-Jewish Poles, political prisoners, Soviet prisoners of war, Sinti and Roma, homosexuals, disabled persons and Jehovah\u2019s witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unprecedented in human history, this mass killing was motivated by the perverse, race-based ideology of the Nazis, who sought to track down and kill every last Jew and any others they considered to be inferior.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Humankind united to overcome the Nazi menace.\u00a0 Today, we are being tested again.\u00a0 Minorities everywhere often face bigotry.\u00a0 Sectarian tensions and other forms of intolerance are on the rise.\u00a0 Anti-Semitic attacks continue, with Jews being killed solely because they are Jews.\u00a0 Vulnerable communities around the world continue to bury their dead while living in fear of further violence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The mission of the United Nations was shaped by the tragedy of the Second World War and the Holocaust.\u00a0 We are committed to protect the vulnerable, promote fundamental human rights and uphold the freedom, dignity and worth of every person.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For the past decade, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/holocaustremembrance\/\">the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme<\/a> has mobilized students and educators around the world to help us achieve these goals. \u00a0We are grateful to our many partners \u2013 including Holocaust survivors &#8212;
