“Every woman, every child” – they managed to save 2.4 million lives
One of the sessions of the Commission on the Status of Women held on March 10th was devoted to the initiative “Every woman, every child” which was announced by the UN General Assembly in 2010 and aimed to prevent mortality of more than 15000 children up to 5 years and that of 570 thousand women occurring during pregnancy or childbirth. As Ban Ki-moon noted in his opening speech since the launch of this initiative they managed to save 2.4 million children and women. It was done due to increase of healthcare funding, strengthening of political will and improving access to medical services.
