The number of women parliamentarians in the world is growing but very slowly
For the second year in a row growth rates of the number of women in parliaments worldwide do not exceed 0.5%. Report “Women in Parliament 2015” of The Inter-Parliamentary Union was released on the eve of March 8 – International Women’s Day.
Let’s note that in the 1995 -2015 the number of women in parliaments around the world. Grew and doubled. Today, women make up 22.6% of the overall share of the parliamentarians. And although this is the highest figure recorded in the history of the growth rates, anyhow, according to experts, it is alarming and need to be clear acceleration. In 2013 growth by 1.5% gave women hope that in case of similar movements will be possible to maintain gender equality in parliaments around the world within one generation. But the indicators in 2015 do not inspire confidence that this trend will change in the near future.
