What is expected by Electoral Code in terms of women’s representation in lists of parties?

According to the new Electoral code draft approved by the RA Government each party or alliance of political parties particiating in elections should represent one common national list  and lists for each area.  Party, alliance of parties in the first part of their lists make territorial electoral lists. Each candidate may be included only in one territorial electoral list.

The effectiveness of the quota of candidates’nomination should be reviewed as a temporary special measure aimed at achieving de facto women’s rights to be a candidate in order to achieve equality.

In fact, new draft does not take into account the fact that previous quota was not effective and there is a need to take steps in that direction. Besides, the world has proceed over the last five years, the new more ambitious goals are proclaimed, such as: to achieve women’s and men’s 50/50 proportion in all spheres of development by 2030.
