“Women in the fight against coronavirus”. The new issue of “EQUAL” newsletter has been published
The new issue of “EQUAL” newsletter looks at the effects of COVID-19 on women.
Studies show that the pandemic affects everyone everywhere, but it affects different groups of people in different ways, deepening existing inequalities and identifying vulnerabilities in social, political and economic systems.
According to expert assessments, COVID-19 has a devastating socio-economic impact, especially on women, as well as on the progress made so far in the area of gender equality and women’s rights. In this regard, governments’ responses to the epidemic may initially address the disproportionate effects they have on women and men. And the fact that women around the world, who make up the majority in the fields of health, education, and social services, are at the forefront of the fight against the epidemic, play an important role in resolving the crisis, only confirms that any epidemic and its aftermath must include gender sensitive approaches.
This issue of the newsletter was prepared within the framework of the New Armenia: Modern Parliament program implemented by the United Nations Development Program, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, the Oxygen Foundation, the International Center for Human Development, with the support of the UK Good Governance Foundation and the Government of Sweden.
