What hinders women’s participation in local self-governmental bodies?
Only 17 out of 866 rural communities of Armenia are headed by women and in 49 city community councils there are no women. The largest representation of women is in Lori region with 5 village majors which is followed by Syuniq and Gegharquniq. In Vayots Dzor, Aragatsotn and Tavush regions there are no women in leading positions. There is such a gender proportion of leadership of Local self-governmental bodies. The question arises – what hinders women’s participation in decision-making process.
