How will the representation of women in the Council of Elders change after the October 17 elections?
The Central Electoral Commission summed up the results of the October 17 local elections and made a decision on the distribution of mandates. WomenNet.am has calculated how many of the received mandates will go to women if there are no self-withdrawals.
It should be reminded that on October 17, proportional local elections were held in Gyumri (Shirak), Goris (Syunik), Meghri (Syunik), Tatev (Syunik), Tegh (Syunik), Dilijan (Tavush). According to preliminary estimates, significant progress has been made in terms of women’s representation almost everywhere due to the gender quota used. The Tegh community is an exception, where before this election the representation of women was 27.3%, and as a result of the election it was 26.6%.
According to the published final results, the Gyumri Council of Elders, the regional center of Shirak, will consist of representatives of five political forces. The “Balasanyan Bloc” social party has the maximum number of seats – 14 seats, 4 of which will go to women, according to the voter list.
In this election, on average, 37% of women were represented in the lists of parties nominated in Gyumri.
According to the final results of the Goris Council of Elders elections, 3 political forces will be represented․ The 21 seats will be distributed as follows: “Arush Arushanyan” bloc – 13 seats, “Civil Contract” – 7 seats, “Armenian National Congress” – 1 seat.
In the lists of political forces participating in this local elections in Goris, women were represented by 33%.
According to the final results of the Meghri Council of Elders elections, 4 political forces will be represented in the Council of Elders ․ The “Republic” party has 6 seats, the “Civil Contract” party – 5 seats, the “Liberal” party – 2, the “Country to Live” party – 2.
At the same time, 37% of the candidates in the voter lists of the political forces participating in the local elections in Meghri were women.
According to the final results of the local elections in Tat, 3 political forces will be represented in the Council of Elders ․ The “Civil Contract” party has 7 mandates, the “Shant Dashink” nationalist party – 6, the “Country to Live” party – 2.
In Tatev, the representation of women in the lists of political forces participating in the local elections was 32%.
According to the final results of the Tegh community council elections, 2 political forces will be represented in the council․ The “Civil Contract” party will have 10 seats, the “Country to Live” party will have 5 seats.
It should be noted that in the lists of those two political forces participating in the local proportional elections, women candidates made up 32%.
According to the final results of the proportional elections in Dilijan, 4 political forces will be represented in the Council of Elders․ The “Civil Contract” party has 13 seats, the “Country to Live” party has 5 seats, the “Citizen’s Decision” party has 2 seats, and the “Republic” party has 1 seat.
In the lists of political forces participating in this election in Dilijan, women made up 38% of the candidates.
As for the results of the majoritarian elections, men have been elected mayors in Shamiram and Fiolotovo. There were no women candidates.
There were no women among the candidates for the members of the council of elders of Ferik community of Armavir region and Shamiram community of Aragatsotn region.
Lori Fioletovo Council of Elders has five members, 4 of the 13 nominated candidates were women. However, they did not get enough votes to be included in the Council of Elders. It should be mentioned that 2 of the five members of the current council of elders of that village were women.
