Lusine Hovhannisyan: “People are surprised and think: “ Let’s elect and see what will change”
Together with a number of communities in the Lori region, the Urartar and Katnaghbyur communities of the Stepanavan region have also been included in the list of enlargement. They will be connected to the Stepanavan community. 18 candidates have been nominated for the Stepanavan Council of Elderly elections, two of them women.
Our interlocutor is Lusine Hovhannisyan, the head of Stepanavan branch of the French charity organization and French-speaking club. She is a linguist by profession. She says that the reason for running for the next local elections as a candidate for the council of elders is one, to change something for the better.
The candidate competing with 16 men in the pre-electoral campaign say that men are more free in dealing with campaigns. “For example, if a man has a friend, he can freely carry out his campaign, while a woman is somehow restrained. It’s probably a character of an Armenian woman. Over the years, when you become an active politician, maybe that does not stop you anymore, but it hurts me as a beginner politician, – “she says.
Nevertheless, Hovhannisyan is confident that a woman candidate in Stepanavan has great chances to be elected. “Everyone in the city hearing about my nomination welcomes women to be in the council, whose suggestions and mentality can be out of standard, stereotyped, and change something”.
