Local Elections: Only 4,4% of the elected members of the council are women
On November 5th, 983 candidates participated in local elections in 54 communities, 49 of which or 5% were women. Only 4.4% of the elective candidates are women. Let us remind that according to the results of last year local elections, the representation of women in the councils was 11.7%, and in this respect a serious regress has been registered in the November 5 elections.
Overall, half of the 49 female candidates were nominated – 24. They were struggling to become council members only in 24 communities, of which 20 were enlarged.
For example, in order to be included in the Council of Elders, women were fighting for Aparan, Aragatsavan in Aragatsotn region, Geghamasar, Lchashen, Sarukhan in Gegharquniq region, Alaverdi, Akhtala, Gyulagarak, Lori Berd, Sarchapet, Metsavan, Stepanavan, Tashir, Odzun, Byureghavan, Meghradzor in Lori Region, Jrvezh, Kapan, Sisian, Kajaran in Kotayk Region, Kapan, Sisian, Qajaran in Syunik Marz, Yeghegis in Vayots Dzor, Aygehovit, Berd, Yenokavan in Tavush region.
As a result of the election, female candidates celebrated victory in 16 communities.
