Representation of women in the Council of Elders formed as a result of the October 17 elections has sharply increased / infographic

 

 

As it is known, on October 17 local elections were held in Gyumri, Goris, Tegh, Meghri, Tatev, Dilijan communities. The results were summed up by the first sessions of the newly elected community councils, the mayors were elected, and the process of forming the city authorities began, which in some places is not over yet. It should be noted that there are no women among the elected leaders in all the mentioned communities. As for the representation of women in the councils, it has sharply increased in almost all proportionally elected communities compared to the previous councils.

Compared to the previous staff of Gyumri Council of Elders, the representation of women has increased: 25% → 39.4%

 

Compared to the previous staff of Goris Council of Elders, the representation of women has sharply increased: 0% → 33%

 

Compared to the previous composition of the Tegh council, the representation of women has decreased: 27% → 20%

 

Representation of women in Meghri sharply increased: 0% → 40%

 

Representation of women in Tatev Council of Elders has sharply increased: 0% → 40%

 

Compared to the previous staff of the Council of Elders in Dilijan, the representation of women has increased: 0% → 38%

 

 

As for the majoritarian elections, which took place in three communities inhabited by national minorities: Shamiram, Ferik and Fioletovo, no progress was registered in terms of women’s representation as a result of the elections. Women are not included in the councils of those communities.
