Local Elections: Among women nominated some “not real” candidates are observed
New elections of local authorities are scheduled for April 17 in 36 communities of Ararat, Armavir, Lori, Vayots Dzor, Aragatsotn, Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Syunik. 33 of them are electing the community leader.
Elections of community leader
First, let’s note that the number of female mayors will not change as a result of these elections. Only men submitted applications for leading Talin Spitak and Hrazdan.
The analysis on the candidates of majors submitted by CEC shows that women in Lori are the most active in elections of community leader.
We can assume that in Lori’s Sarchapet community nomination of a woman is just formal and the real battle will unfold. Alomg with the Republican Mayor Boris Baroyan nonpartisan Angela Martirosyan runs her candidacy, who works for the municipality, as the secretary’s office.
Local elections are scheduled in two communities in Aragatsotn – Talin, Upper Sasnashen. There are no women among the candidates. Ararat will elect five village mayors. Here, women are absent too.
City Council elections
On the same day, April 7, six communities will also conduct elections. Talin nominated 32 candidates for council elections. Only three of them are women. Note that the Tallinn city council has 11 members, including one woman.
Pre-election campaign will start on March 30 and will continue until April 15. Candidates can submit withdrawal requests until April 7, at 18: 00. Then, most likely, no real candidates will appear be they male or female.
