Sofi Minasyan. “My main goal is to apply my knowledge in the military sphere, thus contributing to the security of our country”

“The world is developing very fast, a person should not be limited to one profession, but choose one or two professions in different fields. It is necessary to master several languages and use them as a tool at work, “said Sofi Minasyan, a 18-year-old fourth-year student at the Gyumri Aviation Model Club at the airport.

This airport, which is still under construction, should serve as a technical base for all those interested in drones. In other words, people will be able to set problems and perform tests on the ATS on the spot. It can serve as a center for professional ATS groups and companies operating in Armenia.

Sofi Minasyan has been interested in aircraft modeling sports since she was a child. In addition to the classes, she was able to overcome the stereotype in Gyumri that “modeling is not a girl’s job” over time, with her strong desire to participate in the trainings of the modeling club on weekends.

According to Sophie, aircraft modeling is not just a hobby or a favorite sport, it has an important mission. “First of all, romanticism, which is the feeling that accompanies any innovation, is indescribably pleasant to see the flight and smooth landing of a hand-made aircraft model soaring in the blue sky. And then, the 44-day war in Artsakh proved how necessary it is from the point of view of security to equip the army with a variety of weapons, including drons”.

After attending the trainings of the modeling club for four years, Sophie gained a lot of knowledge and skills. She remembers how she was able to make a small model in one day, later their size increased, on which she worked for even a year.

According to Sophie, the models she makes are mostly free-flying models, which are also made in groups by remote-controlled flying devices, the flight height of which depends on the remote control. The students of the group managed to build 10-kilometer-high and 500-meter-long drones.

“During the test, we also use FPV glasses, which are installed on the device. The camera mounts on the aircraft model, then we connect the model with the glasses, behind the bird from the height of what is visible from a certain distance. It feels like you are in a model” says Sophie.

Sophie is inspired by the fact that today the public’s interest has grown. Of course, it happened after the war, but it is possible that many people take part in the training, including many girls. She is a programmer by profession, but she will use his profession equally to study and prepare new model drons.
