MP suggests creating women’s council in National Assembly
The enlargement process hampers the involvement of women in local self-governing bodies.
We have gone through one stage of enlargement of the community and the existing statistics already indicate that women’s involvement in local self-government bodies has dropped from 2 to 3 times. This problem was raised by Shakey Isayan, a member of the National Assembly from Tsarukyan faction.
“If before in this republic no regions and towns were led by women and women were represented only in the positions of heads of rural communities, as a result of the factual reforms, we also have a big gap in representation of women,” she noted.
The MP also suggested creating a Women’s Council in the National Assembly, which would be in touch with the relevant government agencies and through which women’s involvement would increase in certain processes. The MP also referred to international practice, which shows that many parliaments operate commissions on women’s rights protection and advice.
