Procedure for Response to Sexual and Gender Violence was signed in the United Nations’ Office in Armenia
On November 21, on the eve of the 16-day International Campaign to Eliminate Violence against Women and Girls, the UN Office of Armenia hosted signing a document on the response to sexual and gender-based violence and prevention. The signatory parties were the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Armenian Red Cross Society (ARCS).
The full name of the document is “Standard Operating Procedures for Refugees, Asylum Seekers, Deported and Stateless Persons, as well as on Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Persons Released by Refugees.” It was signed by UNFPA Representative in Armenia Christophe Birvirt and Secretary General of the Armenian Red Cross Anna Yeghiazaryan. It was also underscored that the event is being held throughout the world on November 16th, in the framework of the 16th Day Activism against Sexual Violence, this year’s the slogan of which is “Do not let anyone destroy violence against women and girls”.
The signing ceremony was followed by discussion of the draft law on domestic violence approved by the Government of Armenia in the framework of refugee protection.
