November 14 local elections. One-third of the newly elected councils are women/infographics
30-33% of the members of the Council of Elders formed after the November 14 local elections in Stepanavan, Kapan, Syunik, the regional center of Syunik, Kapan, and Ijevan communities of Tavush region. It should be reminded that before women were not represented in the councils of the three cities.
9 out of 27 members of the already formed Kapan Council of Elders or more than 33% are women. 3 of the female members of the Council of Elders are CP members, 5 are from the “Shant” bloc. It should be reminded that before that there were no women members in the Kapan Council of Elders.
It should be reminded that as a result of the proportional elections, the representation of women in the local self-government bodies has increased, as there is a gender quota that obliges at least 30/70 proportion of the candidates fixed in the RA Electoral Code in case of proportional elections. It defines: The number of representatives of each sex in any of the three numbers (1-3, 1-6, 1-9 and so on until the end of the list) from the number 1 of the electoral list of each of the parties included in the “Party (Party Alliance)” bloc shall not exceed 70%. ”
Women make up 20% of the councils elected by the majority
As a result of the November 14 majoritarian elections, one of the five newly elected members of the Lermontovo village council of the Lori region (20%) is a woman, non-party Kristine Kharatyan. There were no women in the previous Council of Elders.
2 out of 9 members of Arzni community council of Kotayk region are women (22%): non-party Alexanova Susanna and Ivanova Toma from “Civil Contract”. The representation of women in the community council has decreased. Three women were represented in the former Council of Elders: Ivanova Polina, Sonya Ghulghazaryan, Yakubova Tatyana.
