“If it is necessary I will even clean the toilet so that my children not go to bed hungry and frozen…”
23-year-old Nona Ghazinyan’s first marital experiencebegan with the violence – she was still at school when he was kidnappes…
She is a survivor of domestic violence; she was very young when they kidnapped her from school and she got married with someone who abused her regularly and used to burn her arms with cigarettes. “I did not love my first husband, he was beating me,” says Nona pulling the jacket back to show tobacco stains on her skin.
She left him and got married a second time, but today she is alone with her 3 months old. Her parents are too poor themselves to be able to help. She used to work before but now she can’t because of her baby. The young girl appeared in Vanadzor public spotlight when “Lori TV» – published video, about Nona where she tells about her desperate situation. And she told WomenNet more detailed presentation of the difficulties.
“The first child is from my first husband, then I married a second time, my second child was born three months ago. My husband was lazy, did not work, did not earn money, nor was helping me at home. Even he did not crack the wood to heat the house. We divorced. Now, as before, I brake the wood myself to prevent my child from being frozen “, says Nona.
Nona is living in a very desperate situation and doesn’t receive any aid from the state because she is not registered anywhere. When it gets too cold, she leaves her baby for a few moments with a neighbor and runs outside to gather some wood to burn and heat the place so the baby stays warm. She owes money for the electricity (aprox 90 USD) so they cut it, and can’t pay the rent for her small room (aprox. 20 USD per month).
In Nona’s words, she will never escape from work, it is impossible to combine work with care of a newborn child. “I say, if it is necessary I will even clean the toilet so that my children not go to bed hungry and frozen…”.
