Nazik Avdalyan: “If a woman knows her work well, she should not give up her place only because her opponent is a man”

Nazik Avdalyan, who earned the title of world champion in European Weightlifting Championships in different years, answers with smile to “Is politics a woman’s place” and similar questions. She has been persuaded for years that weight gain is not a woman’s place, but she has proved the opposite by registering serious successes. Today Nazik Avdalyan is taking part in the sixth place by the proportional list of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) in the Yerevan Council of Elderly elections. Speaking to WomenNet.am, she presents her visionary solutions to Yerevan’s problems.

The Gyumri athlete is surprised by the people who claim that she should participate in the elections in her city. Nazik recalls that she has been living in Yerevan for ten years and has been living in Avan. “And when I was representing the country, I was not representing only Gyumri? Yerevan is the whole capital of Armenia, “said Avdalyan, joking.

There are problems for both adults and children in Yerevan. It’s a dusty, dirty city, and I do not want my child to grow up in a dirty city. We should make it beautiful, well-being, affordable for everyone. I use public transport much more, including my four-year-old child. They tell me so much, Nazik, why do travel by transport? People think that using public transport is humiliating, especially for people who are well-known to the public. The reason for it is that it’s not comfortable, it’s terrible, and it’s dirty… Meanwhile, public transport should be nice and ordinary for everyone; it’s not uncommon for people to see the famous ones on the route.

True, I have left great sports, but I follow this area with particular attention. You know, there are very small problems that are not difficult to solve, but it will greatly contribute to the development of sports. For example, one can buy cheap, but worthwhile assets. I will raise the issue and I will be vigilant to improve the school gym, spread and develop different sports. Can be achieved with little money, organized and joint efforts to achieve results, after all, sport is first of all a healthier, healthy lifestyle. This is also very important in the age of Internet, when children are sitting on the computer and phones all day long. In the end, there is a problem of supremacy. Sport also develops the psychology of children, the power of will. In this regard, I attach importance to the development of amateur sport. I also value women’s and gym halls more often. In addition to having good muscles, it also boosts mood. I always think in this direction, now I have the opportunity to voice.

– I live in Avan district, on the third floor of a multi-storey building. I’m walking up and down, not just because it’s healthy, but the elevator does not work. The most important issues are elevators, garbage disposal, and cleanliness. The latter starts from the house. Once my boy ate nothing of a chuppe, he dropped the paper on the floor. I asked him to take it and then praised him for that act. After that, garbage does not throw down the ground. All of us have to understand that our country is our home; it must be kept and pampered like our home. For example, I have planted a lot of trees.  If we plant a few trees, we will have a dusty city.

My child attends a public kindergarten, I’m very happy, it’s a great place. To be honest, I was welcomed there with my son for which I am very grateful, because I was actively participating in the trainings. But I have heard and know that getting into kindergartens is complicated. I know that working hours in kindergartens are short, right, I do not work, I have not faced the problem, but I have heard from dissatisfied working parents. I have not yet been able to get acquainted with the problems completely, but I will definitely try to help my capital to fill the gap.
