Naira Zohrabyan: “An attempt is made to present domestic violence as a model for the Armenian family”
The law on Domestic Violence Prevention is a must and there cannot be any two opinions here, “said Naira Zohrabyan, Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration, member of the Tsarukyan faction in a conversation with WomenNet.
“It is a fact that domestic violence, both in latent and non-latent Armenia, is a serious and risky one. Another issue is whether the law should be adopted in the form that it is presented by the Government of the Republic of Armenia or that it should be amended. We find that there are certain contradictions in the draft law and there are certain extremes and formulations that need correction and, naturally, when the parliament is starting to debate that project, we will submit our proposals”, – he said.
Naira Zohrabyan reminded that on October 18 the committee had summoned parliamentary hearings to discuss the bill, during which the Committee will summarize the proposals made during the upcoming working discussions. At the same time, the speech refers not only to the proposals voiced by the MPs, but also to other participants during the hearings. By the way, Mrs. Zohrabyan, taking into consideration the unpleasant incidents during the previous discussions, urged the participants not to turn the hearings into clashes, as everyone has the right to express their opinion.
