Let’s exclude sexism and discrimination in public sphere together
A number of NGOs and unions have called for a crackdown on sexism in the political arena.
CALL TO THE MPs OF THE RA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY,
STATE AND POLITICAL FIGURES
We, the representatives of the civil society, are concerned about the recent statements and speeches that violate the moral and ethical norms regularly voiced by various political tribunes, which not only contain insults of a personal nature, but also create fertile ground for the most extreme manifestations of sexism.
Based on our research and observations, we see that in the context of a deep crisis in the culture of political debate and highly personalized political discourse, women are more targeted, who are more likely to be addressed by expressions that insult gender dignity, hate speech and threats.
Following the recent examples of politicians addressing the issue, clarifying the word containing sexism and publicly apologizing, we consider these steps a necessary but not sufficient condition for radical change.
Given that the impact of intolerance, discrimination, hate speech, personal insults and sexism based on sexism is multiplying, moving directly from political debate to social and media platforms is a serious obstacle to the creation of a healthy political environment, protection of human rights and democracy. for the establishment of parliamentarism.
Considering any manifestation of gender-based discrimination as equally unacceptable to both women and men, a serious challenge to the GIVEN rights and GUARANTEED rights of women and men adopted by the Republic of Armenia and enshrined in law.
WE SUGGEST AND WE MAKE A CALL.
To use all necessary mechanisms and means to exclude the manifestations of sexism from the highest political platforms and to hold accountable for conducting inadmissible behaviors outside the norms of ethics in political relations, including the establishment of an ethics committee in the National Assembly in such cases.
LET’S EXCLUDE SEXISM AND DISCRIMINATORY SPEECH IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN TOGETHER
