Maria Sahakyan: “Me and cinematography love each other and we want to be together”
On January 28th, Armenian director, scriptwriter, master of cinematography Maria Sahakyan died prematurely in Moscow. The cause of the death of a 37-year-old Armenian was cancer. Despite her young age, M. Sahakyan managed to win numerous awards.
Maria Sahakyan was born in 1980. In the 1990s, she moved to Moscow with her family and graduated from the All-Russian State Cinematography Institute (VGIK), Department of Cinema and Television Directing, Vladimir Kobrin’s studio.
Her diploma work, short film “Farewell” won the Golden Apricot’s best student debut film and received a Kodak Prize at VGIK Festival and a diploma of the “Saint Anna” festival.
2006 her first full-length feature film, “Paros”, was screened by Marian with such prominent artists as Sos Sargsyan and Sophiko Chiaureli. This was a movie about war without a war. She participated in the Moscow International Film Festival in the Perspectives program and won the Best Film nomination at the Yerevan International Film Festival. In her 2012 film “Entropy”, Ksenia Sobchak, Valeria Gay-Germanika, Diana Dell, Evgeny Tiganov and Danilo Polyakov were shot. Maria Sahakyan’s “Alaverdi” or “It’s Not me” film won the “Hayak” Prize in Best Film category. “It is not me” was also awarded the Best Director Award for “Kinoshock”.
“I know what makes me happy, and that’s a movie. The more you give yourself up to something, the more you get back. If nothing happens, you should think that you did not give as much as you needed, “says Maria. “I love cinema and we want to be together,” she said.
Maria is the granddaughter of a well-known publicist, economist and public figure Seda Vermisheva. She has 5 children, who live in the US with their father.
Let’s inform you that on February 3th , the “Spotlight” club in Yerevan, the National Cinema Center of Armenia and Cinema World Kinoashkharh offer to watch Maria Sahakyan’s film “It’s not me”. The collection will be donated to the account opened for the five children of Maria.
