Lilit Makunts: “We, women, should support each other …”

“I think that in any conservative society it is difficult for a woman to act in politics,” said Acting Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts, who ranks 8th in the “My Step” alliance list for a snap election. She was also nominated by the rating system in the N2 electoral district, covering the Arabkir, Ajapnyak, Davtashen administrative districts of Yerevan.

Since 2008, Lilit Makunts has been in a position of politics with certain involvement, saying that this political experience certainly helps, but involvement in the political competition requires serious training.

Answering the question of WomenNet.am, “Is not the competition for a female candidate difficult? She says: “I have to try to be as objective as possible, though I am not sure if it will be possible because perhaps personal attitudes play a bigger role here. Anyway, I will say the least. I think it is difficult for a woman to act politically in any conservative society. Although we are already taking steps, we have female representatives in government, and we saw that many women were elected to the council, and women played a very decisive role in the revolution. ”

After the election, Makunts is ready to be where the political team will decide: “I am ready to work with great devotion in the parliament and in the governance system.”

Makunts considers the role of the woman in politics important and brings examples. “Women can be much more successful in diplomacy. I can even say in a simple, everyday example that we are always trying to negotiate, in other words, to round up the sharp corners and find common and peaceful solutions. ” Makunts is convinced that anyone who acts as a woman in politics, including herself, should not be blamed for taking responsibility in any sector and to some extent be a new leader.
