Women’s leadership for an equal future
In their messages on International Women’s Day, the United Nations and all international organizations emphasized the need to expand women’s leadership, adhering to the theme chosen as the main motto of the day this year.
UN Women Executive Director Fumzile Mlambo-Ngkuka’s main message on International Women’s Day was also the leadership of women.
The UN Women states that the theme of women’s leadership is in line with the priorities of the 65th session of the Women’s Status Committee, which starts in a week, including the issue of full and effective participation of women in public life and at the decision-making level. In addition, International Women’s Day brings together women from around the world to the upcoming Generation Equality Forum to work for an equal future for all. The forum is considered to be the most important event for gender equality investments and actions.
Generation Equality Forum is an initiative a body responsible for the advancement of women, the United Nations Women (UN-Women), as well as the governments of France and Mexico, in close cooperation with civil society.
The initiative is aimed at promoting cooperation between states, international organizations and civil society in the context of the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, the Beijing Declaration and the Action Plan adopted within its framework.
The forum is built around 6 thematic coalitions aimed at gender equality, women’s rights, economic empowerment, health, climate, gender mainstreaming, feminist movements, and leadership.
The leaders of the coalitions include 20 countries, other international organizations that are part of the UN system, charitable organizations, as well as well-known non-governmental organizations in the field.
Generation Equality Forum also initiates the development of an Innovative Agreement on Women, Peace, Security and Humanitarian Action, aimed at investing resources in ensuring peace, security and humanitarian action.
