Self-withdrawals: Two female candidates drop out of the race
On September 19, at 6:00 pm, the deadline for candidates running in the September 29th local government and snap elections to submit withdrawals expired.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) told WomenNet.am that in total four candidates withdrew, two of them women. The three candidates withdrawing from the further struggle are from the Arevabur community of Ararat province: Khachatur Khachatryan, Ghazaryan Hazaravard (Teacher at School after H. Tadevosyan), Aghunik Margaryan (Masis Medical Center nurse).
Recall that both women who submitted withdrawals are non-party and self-nominated. Earlier, Mane Abrahamyan and Leyli Martirosyan, who had applied to run for mayor of Yeghegnut village in Armavir province, had withdrawn their documents before registration.
As a result, according to the data provided by the CEC, 99 candidates, 12 of whom are women, will run after the recurrent and snap elections of the Council of Elders in 7 communities. 7 of them fight in Artashat, 3 in Sarigyugh and 2 in Chkalov.
There will be a community leader election in 13 communities, 42 nominated, 41 registered, and there are no women among the 36 candidates running for the post.
