Scandal over sexual abuse at workplace: new developments
The scandal involving sexual harassment at the workplace that started in the fall of last year remains on the focus of the international media, and new developments are continuing.
Let’s remind that everything started in the fall of 2017, when The New Yorker and The New York Times published a series of research papers on Hollywood producer Harvey Wainstein’s sexual harassment against actresses. Public debate began on this issue, and new accusations against other actors and directors were raised. As a result, producer Harvey Wainstein was dismissed by his own company, and several major representatives of cinema industry were deprived of multimillion-dollar deals and reputations.
For example, Kevin Spacey, the keynote speaker of the famous Canadian TV series, was deprived of the “Emmy” prize after a 15-year-old boy claimed that Spacey was harassing them. The wave of allegations of sexual assault has been transferred to other areas, including politics, as a result of which several politicians have been forced to leave their posts. Among them was the United Kingdom Defense Minister Michael Fallon, who announced his resignation.
During the Golden Globe Award Ceremony at Los Angeles this year, actresses showed their solidarity with the movement, wearing black dresses to support women who have ever been sexually assaulted.
At the same time, the well-known 100 French women expressed their opposition to the massive campaign of hatred and public pursuit of men, which broke out after the accusation of the famous Hollywood producer, Harvey Wainstein, for sexual harassment. The open letter, published in Le Monde, was also signed by famous actress Catherine Deneuve and writer Catherine Milleniele. The authors of the letter see obesity signs in the movement against harassment and consider “harassment against women” as men’s right and an integral part of sexual freedom.
