Gender Gap Report 2012. Armenia is ranked 92-nd

Armenia is ranked 92nd in the Global Gender Gap Index issued by the World Economic Forum.

The report says Armenia fell eight places this year. This fall is the consequence of a significant decrease in the estimated earned income ratio. Armenia is one of the four countries from the region that performs below average on the health and survival subindex.

The report, which first began back in 2006, tracks 135 countries and measures the size of a nation’s gender gap with 14 indicators broken down into four key areas:

  • Educational Attainment (literacy, primary-, secondary- and tertiary-level school enrolment)
  • Economic Participation and Opportunity (returns from education: employment, income and career advancement)
  • Health and Survival (life expectancy, sex ratio at birth)
  • Political Empowerment (women’s representation in parliament, in minister-level positions, in executive office)

Georgia is ranked 85th having the best indicators among neighboring states. Azerbaijan ranks in 99th position, Turkey – 124 and Iran – 127.

Iceland tops the overall rankings followed by Finland, Norway and Sweden.
