What losses occur in Armenia due to gender inequality
As a result of limiting women in work and existing discrimination in the labor market Armenia’s GDP loses 50-60 million dollars per year. This conclusion was made by the experts according to the results of “Diagnostic study of discrimination against women” implemented in Armenia in 2015-2016 initiated by the United Nations Population Fund. In fact, it is the first attempt in Armenia to assess the economic losses of the country due to gender inequality.

Representing the results of the study today during the press conference organized at Media Center the executive representative of the UN Population Fund Gagik Hayrapetyan and expert Nvard Manasyan noted that they are comparable with the estimates made in different countries. Let’s recall that recently company McKinsey & Co has estimated that full gender equality could add 26% or 28 trillion $ to global GDP until 2025. According to that report, it is possible to add GDP in Eastern Europe and Central Asia by 9% or 0,4 trillion dollars until 2025.
