The UN has declared an ambitious goal – to achieve gender equality by 2030

UN Secretary_General Ban Ki-moon in his opening speech at the 59^th session of UN Commission on the Status of Women launched at UN Headquarters in New York on March 9^th declared a new and rather ambitious goal – to achieve gender equality in all spheres of life until 2030. This is a historical moment. 20 years ago in Beijing Governments of 189 countries, including Government of Armenia, took a commitment to provide equal rights and equal opportunities for women and men in all the spheres of life. This idea was fixed in Beijing Declaration and Beijing Platform for Action which served as roadmap for the whole world. 59^th session of the Commission on the Status of Women will summarize all the achievements made in the direction of women’s empowerment and will outline ways of further development until March 20^th.
