Gayane Ghulyan: “New forces, new faces, new words and vigor, this is our pledge”
Gayane Gulian, a lawyer representing the seventh position in the “Reformist” party list, is participating for the first time as a candidate, since she has not been engaged in politics so far. And the choice of the party explains that the views and ideas of the Reformists fully coincide with their own approaches.
Getting acquainted with the viewpoints of the Reformist Party, ideas, and the team, I found a very friendly environment either with its programs or generally, with its approach to this or that question. The Reformist Party has captured me because it is a fully independent union with its clear stances and goals. Almost the only party, which is not one of the favorites of the previous authorities or the current authorities….
– Since you were not involved in political activities in the past, was not it a surprise?
– I have never been involved in politics, yes, but that does not mean that I have not been interested in the events taking place in my country, I have not understood it or have not been the bearer of this or that political event. As a human rights activist I have raised the negative or positive consequences of this or that phenomenon, as far as it was possible. And I’m not a member of the Council of Elders, I do not think that it means being engaged in politics since the Council of Elders is the local self-governing body, which is independent and operates only for the sake of Yerevan and on behalf of its local self-governing body. By the way, the Reformist Party is almost the only party in the Council of Elders which does not have politicians in the past, and this is our pledge – new forces, new faces, new words and vigor. The voter knows very well that each of us is one of them, with the same problems and concerns, why not with hopes and goals.
– Yerevan for you is…
– Yerevan is my home where one feels safe. I love my Yerevan, when I was little I loved it how one loves his parent. At this age I like it as my baby, motherhood, parental care, tenderness and grooming. Expressing this in words is ‘easy and hard’. It’s easy, because you can say pretty nice words, but at the moment it is not right.
– As a mother and as a candidate for the council of elders, what are the problems Yerevan women and children are facing and what are your solutions?
– Today’s woman has a lot of problems starting with having a baby. In our days, men and women share equal responsibilities, paralleling it, and working hard to bring up children and to fill the home with love and kindness. But in reality, there are a lot of problems starting with the course of pregnancy as various medical programs are needed, ending with educational institutions, particularly with respect to kindergartens and schools, especially for hours, as working mothers face problems and try to find alternate routes. Let us not forget about other issues, such as submitting age and other demands forwarded by the employer during employment. Reformists address all of these issues with their program, and we will take care to make mother and child’s life easier.
