33.8% of candidates in territorial lists are women (23.11.2018)
11 political forces participating in extraordinary parliamentary elections have nominated 1326 candidates in territorial or so-called rating lists in 13 constituencies, 449 of which are women or 33.8%. This is a little progress compared with the previous parliamentary elections in 2017 when the number of women represented by territorial lists was 30.8%.
In general, the greatest number of candidates by territorial lists was represented by party “Sasna Tsrer” (155), followed by the Prosperous Armenia Party (154), the “My Step” (149) and the “Bright Armenia” (142). The Republican Party is the only one that all candidates included in the national list are also nominated by a rating system.
As regards women’s participation, the National Progress Party represents the largest number of women in both national lists and territorial lists. In its territorial lists, 35 out of 65 candidates or 53.8% are women.
Comparing the territorial lists of some parties to the 2017 and 2018 parliamentary elections, we can state that the RPA has ensured representation of women candidates with 10.9% growth, the Rule of Law party, which was participating previously as “Renaissance”, about 9% Growth, the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), the Tsarukyan bloc in the previous elections, has secured 2.5% growth in women’s representation, and the ARF Dashnaktsutyun – 3.3% growth.
