The largest number of women candidates were nominated in Jermuk, Vagharshapat, Khoy / infographics
Proportional local elections are scheduled for December 5 in 36 enlarged communities in Armavir, Ararat, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, Shirak, Lori, Aragatsotn, Kotayk, Gegharkunik and Tavush. Ahead of Election Day, WomenNet.am examined and analyzed the proportional lists of political parties, parties and blocs nominated by women in terms of women’s representation.
According to the Central Electoral Commission, 44 parties and blocs, including 4,357 candidates, have nominated proportional lists in 36 clusters. 1147 of them or 33.2% of the candidates are women.
In Jermuk community, women make up 40.5% of the total number of candidates.
Examining the voter lists nominated by political forces in separate communities by gender, WomenNet.am found out that the largest number of women candidates are nominated in Jermuk community of Vayots Dzor. Here women make up 40.5% of the total number of candidates. Three forces are running in the local elections in Jermuk: the “Civil Contract”, the “Country to Live” parties and the “Our Community” bloc.
Jermuk is followed by Vagharshapat with 36.3% and Aries with 36.2%. It should be reminded that the list nominated by the ruling “Civil Contract” party in Vagharshapat is headed by the incumbent mayor Dianna Gasparyan.
Women are less represented in the voter lists of political forces in the Baghramyan cluster of Armavir region.
In half of the 36 electoral communities, women make up 32-33%.
The struggle is more competitive in the regional center of Lori, Vanadzor, where ten political forces are fighting to be included in the Council of Elders and then to get the post of mayor.
Six political forces have nominated voter lists in the regional center of Ararat Artashat, in Martuni, in Nairi six parties-blocs are fighting for the post of mayor, in Vagharshapat, Artik, Yeghegnadzor five political forces are fighting.
Local elections are scheduled for December 5 in two communities, in the villages of Arevut and Metsadzor in the Aragatsotn region. Here they will elect community head and council of elders.
