“It is possible to turn any law into something ridiculous and say that we do not need it “
In the history of Armenia, this is unprecedented, at least in the last decade that the ruling force initiates a draft law and even gets so strongly resisted even by its supporters. Is this a democracy, I doubt it. Avetik Ishkhanyan, President of the Helsinki Committee in Armenia expressed this view on the draft law on domestic violence prevention on Shant TV.
“If the project had been initiated by an opposition group, then this furious response would be expected because such cases have been repeatedly repeated and vice versa. In the recent cases, the draft Constitution, the Nation-army project and so on, the whole government system and all the sides of the government did not even give any hints that any point may be changed, everyone seemed to welcome it ” said Avetik Ishkhanyan.
According to him, now it seems that on the one hand it is promised to the European Union that we will accept that project, on the other hand the authorities want to “play democracy” and show that the society is against it, but nevertheless we accept or want to show , that the society is against, we do not accept.
“If societies, peoples or nations do not speak about their shortcomings, it is a defect, because there may be national traditions that are defective and should be corrected. If we do not raise the issue, we will remain in the caves, in the middle ages, “the human rights activist assured.
