Annual Media Award Na/Ne-2012
The British Council, British Embassy Yerevan, the OSCE Office in Yerevan, UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund and World Vision Armenia announce the 5th Anniversary Edition of the Na/Ne media competition. The event is organised in partnership with the Oxfam Armenia, the European Union, Public Journalism Club, Institute of War and Peace Reporting and Armenian Young Women’s Association.
Journalists representing printed, online media, TV and radio companies of Armenia as well as independent journalists are eligible to submit their stories and publications to take part in the competition. The published and broadcast stories and their authors may also be nominated by organizations and individuals.
Materials must have been published or broadcast within the period from January to December 2012 and covered the activities and achievements, problems and challenges of women in political, economic and social spheres. All publications should be presented from the gender equality perspective.

Prizes
1st prize Na/Ne Silver Statue and 300, 000 AMD
2nd prize Certificate and 150,000 AMD
3rd prize Certificate and 75,000 AMD
Special prizes of 100,000 AMD are also provided by partner organizations for special thematic submissions:
- UNFPA in addition to supporting all media nominations will also award a special prize to the best media submission particularly highlighting the issues of Preventable infertility caused by abortion and sexually transmitted diseases.
- World Vision Armenia will also award one additional special prize for the best media submission highlighting mother and child health. Within the framework of an EU-funded project, a second special award will be given for the best submission on HIV/AIDS prevention, awareness raising and stigma illumination related topic.
- OXFAM Armenia’s Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Programme will define a special prize for best printed article and/or radio programme highlighting how women and youth protect their communities from disasters and the Sustainable Livelihoods Programme will award a special prize for the best TV programme or Radio programme highlighting Rural Women’s Economic Leadership.
- Armenian Young Women Association traditionally provides a special Student Award.
- Public Journalism Club has prepared a special prize – an Android mobile phone for the best citizen report, published either on www.mynews.am, or any other citizen reporting platform.
- Institute of War and Peace Reporting will provide a special prize for the submissions reflecting on the Impact of war on women.
- British Council prepared F-People’s Choice Award prize for the story which will collect the most Facebook Like on the Na/Ne blog. Public voting will be finalized on 20 January.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted until 13 January, 2013. The results of the competition will be finalised by the end of January and presented during the Na/Ne award ceremony to be held in February 2013.
Please, submit the applications in hard copy to the British Council office at 9 Alex Manoogian street, or send via email to nane@britishcouncil.am mentioning your name, media and phone number. Please note that in case of electronic submissions scanned versions of the publications are required. All the stories will be published on the Na/ne blog.
Anniversary Special Award
This year Na/Ne celebrates its 5th Anniversary and there is a special prize open to the media professionals who have participated in any of the five years of the competition.
Participants are invited to submit a story of their participation in the Na/Ne Media Competition, sharing with us their experience of the event, the reason for their interest in the competition and in issues relating to the gender equality in general and their views on how their particular publications or stories have resulted or may soon result in positive changes.
The submitted stories will be posted on the Na/Ne blog where readers will decide the best ones. Five stories receiving the biggest number of comments will be assessed by our professional jury through interviews with the authors to select the winner. The author of the winning story will gain an opportunity to visit a leading European media organisation to experience how gender equality is mainstreamed in the media.
The stories must be written in English and knowledge of the language is required. The stories must be submitted before 17 December, 2012 electronically via email to nane@britishcouncil.am. Please specify the year of the competition you participated in, the name of the publication you submitted and the media outlet you are employed at. All the stories will be posted on Na/Ne Media blog on 20 December. The voting will be finalized on 20 January.
