Anna Avalyan. “A mother living on the border only wants peace”

“Once upon a time, when we were writing a letter or sending a wish to each other, we wanted ‘good health’, we thought it was a kind of standard expression, but now we see that this wish is the most important, the most desirable for all of us,” says  a community council member of Berd, Tavush region Anna Avalyan, with whom WomenNet.am spoke about overcoming the pandemic and war in the border region.

 
She says that like the rest of the world, they were not ready for the pandemic, and it was difficult for everyone to accept the new situation – to be isolated at home, to limit communication, not to go out on the street unnecessarily. At the same time, she assures that the anti-epidemic rules have been observed in the community, “disinfection and prevention measures have been carried out properly.”

According to her, this year of the pandemic has affected not only education, economy, but also human relations.

Our interlocutor mentions that an increase in the disease was observed in the community, especially in October-November. 

She says that throughout the war, the staff of the Berd House of Culture, college student volunteers, and community residents made camouflage nets. The students of the college, together with the student council, prepared boxes, sent food, cigarettes, clothes, other necessary items to the border guards of Tavush and Artsakh. The one-year sum of the union was transferred to the All-Armenian Fund. The group of college hairdressers sent their one-month pension, a group of students collected 1000 drams each and transferred it.

After all, each of us must do our job well, no matter how well we do it, we must strive for the better, “for us” and those who are no longer with us. I say the same to my employees and students, if each of us does our job well, there will be no problem in our country… We want only peace… A mother living on the border only wants peace…
