Will Hillary Clinton run for president again, in 2016?
It’s the biggest question in campaign politics: Will Hillary Clinton run for president again, in 2016?
Hillary Clinton, at Global Town Townterview at the Newseum in Washington, said she is “not inclined” to run for president in 2016.
On the eve of her departure as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that she is “not inclined” to run for President – but she did not slam the door on the idea, either.
“Well, I am not thinking about anything like that right now,” she said.
“I am looking forward to finishing up my tenure as secretary of state, and then catching up on about 20 years of sleep deprivation.”
Standing in the Newseum in Washington and speaking to students watching from around the world, Clinton was asked point blank at the “global town hall” about her future.
Elisa, from Germany, wanted to know, Will she run for President?
“It is up to me to make a decision on my own future. I right now am not inclined to do that,” Clinton said.
“But I will do everything I can to make sure that women compete at the highest levels, not only in the United States but around the world.”
Clinton spoke shortly before the Senate approved President Obama’s nomination of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) to replace her as the nation’s top diplomat.
The vote was 94 to 3. Kerry could be sworn in as early as Wednesday. A welcoming ceremony is planned at the State Department for Monday.
Speculation about Clinton’s future has reached new heights in recent weeks as she prepared to leave the State Department with sky-high approval ratings.
Supporters have even registered – without her approval – a “Ready for Hillary” political action committee to raise money for her election should she decide to run.
At the global town hall meeting, Clinton filled in some of the details about what she will be doing in the months ahead, revealing that she will write a memoir.
But, she added, “I don’t know what I will say in it yet.”
