How do women and men participate in electoral processes? CEC survey data
The Central Electoral Commission has published the results of the Survey data on the participation of women and men in the June 20, 2021 snap parliamentary elections. Such a summary will be the second attempt of the CEC to present to the public gender-disaggregated data on the parliamentary elections. The first were the results of the snap parliamentary elections in 2018. It should be noted that the publication of these data allows comparing the participation of women and men in the electoral process as voters, members of electoral commissions, candidates.
WomenNet.am compared 2018 and 2021 Survey data from the point of view of women’s participation in the early parliamentary elections. Thus, more than half of the voters in Armenia are women. According to the CEC research, in 2021 53.13% of the citizens included in the voter lists during the elections were women, in 2018 – 53.23%.
Women’s participation in the 2021 elections was higher than in the previous elections. 2021 54.97% of the voters were women, in 2018 women made up 51.76% of the voters. It should be noted that the participation of male voters in the 2021 elections decreased to 45.04%, thus the difference between the participation of women and men was about 10%, while in the previous elections the difference was much smaller – 3.5%.
