Almost a third of the candidates who withdrew are women
According to the information published on the official website of the Central Electoral Commission, 22 candidates or 3% of the candidates included in the voter lists of different political forces submitted applications for self-withdrawal within the set time (until October 7 at 18:00). 6 or 27% of the candidates who withdrew were women.
It should be reminded that 728 candidates are included in the voter lists of 17 political forces participating in the proportional elections to be held on October 17 in six communities of Armenia: Dilijan, Gyumri, Meghri, Goris, Tatev, Tegh, 36% of them are women. The percentage of women in party lists has not changed since the self-withdrawal.
Half of those who refused to run in the election, 11, are included in the lists of the “Country to Live” party. Four of them are women.
It should be reminded that this party is participating in the proportional elections in Gyumri, Dilijan, Teghi, Meghri, Tatev communities. This party is the only one of all the forces, the electoral list of which is headed by a woman. Armine Hovhannisyan is one of the candidates for Dilijan mayor.
There is no information on the reasons for the withdrawals.
