The warmth of travel scarves for those in need
“I would like everyone to live so well that there is no need for support or help. I do not consider myself a philanthropist, moreover, I get angry when I am associated with charity, ”says traveler-blogger Lilit Khachaturyan.
At one point in her life, Lilit quit her steady job and began traveling through Armenia to, as she puts it, get to know Armenia better and help people get to know Armenia. She talks about travel in her blog, and in recent months has been traveling with colorful scarves. Each of them has its own history and energy. Lilit tries to support the people of Artsakh with the money raised from the sale of scarves after the Artsakh war. Her idea of recognizing Armenia received new and much more powerful meaning after the war…
I want to make Armenia known to the people of Armenia
My name is Lilit Khachaturyan, I have a travel blog and I try to make Armenia known to Armenians. Armenia, of course, includes Artsakh. I do not know how well it works or not, but I have a group of readers who have become more interested in Armenia.
The initiative to make scarves started during those trips. Although I am very busy during these days, in the evening, when I come to my place to spend the night, sometimes I do not want to sleep, I do not want to go online, so one day I decided to take the threads and knitting needles with me. I like to act. It is something like therapy, meditation and allows you to get away from everything, to focus, to organize your thoughts. After a few scarves, people reacted quite positively, saying it was very beautiful. I decided to make a trial sale. I put it up for sale on the blog and it was well received, because those scarves also have their history, they are made during travels.
During the war and after that, if not in each of our houses, then in the house of a relative, there was an Artsakh citizen who needed support, I had an idea that we could help them with the money received from the sale of scarves.
The concept is as follows: you buy a handmade scarf, and someone has the necessary items bought with the money of that scarf.
I started traveling about 2 years ago because I realized that we do not know Armenia.
Travel also helps you to discover yourself. During this time I have changed a lot, I have started to live in a more real reality, because in Yerevan the reality is different, outside of Yerevan it changes at once, you realize that there are many multi-layered realities in Armenia.
When I had a stable job, which, by the way, I loved very much, there was something missing. It was risky to leave everything and start a travel blog, but I did. When you say that I have decided to start blogging, people think that you will only open an Instagram page, while I spend a lot of time on my blog because I write author’s articles, I try to go to any village and gather the maximum possible information.
There are difficulties, but I love what I do and maybe that is what drives me forward. Every day is a struggle, I have reached a point and I can leave it like that, but every day I struggle to do my job better.
