“Bloody laundry” – protest in Toronto against the war unleashed in Artsakh
Mariam Mughdusyan, an artist living in Canada, and her fellow artists staged a special action in one of the central parts of Toronto, laying “bloody laundry” to express their protest against the “bloody” actions of Azerbaijan and Turkey in Artsakh. The participants of the initiative were holding posters demanding the independence of Artsakh.
According to the author of the initiative Mariam Mughdusyan, the purpose of the installation was to take the passers-by out of the comfort zone, drawing their attention to the humanitarian catastrophe that is taking place today due to the terrorist acts of Azerbaijan and Turkey in Artsakh. During the installation, the reality of Shushi, Stepanakert, and the surrounding towns and villages was created through laundry, which is bloody, symbolizing the catastrophe faced by the peaceful population of Artsakh due to continuous and targeted rocket fire.
“It is unfortunate, but the international community prefers to remain silent when the villages and towns of Artsakh, the civilians, are targeted with rockets. The ‘Bloody Laundry’ show is a reminder of that, symbolizing the people who die in Artsakh,” says Mariam Mughdusyan.
Along with the installation, Armenian and foreign musicians also expressed their support for Artsakh and Armenia with live performances. By the way, after the action, many of its participants received threats from unknown people who introduced themselves as supporters of Azerbaijan and Turkey.
