Mane Tandilyan resigns from the governing council of the “Bright Armenia” party

Mane Tandilyan, a member of the “Bright Armenia” faction of the National Assembly, resigns as a member of the governing council of the “Bright Armenia” party. The MP wrote about this on her Facebook page, detailing that she made such a decision due to health problems.

“I have had health problems for a long time, which I have tried to solve in parallel with my work. However, it became clear that they are no longer incompatible with active parliamentary activity.

Let me hereby inform you that I have to resign from my parliamentary powers, as well as to terminate my activity as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bright Armenia Party.

I thank my political team, “Bright Armenia”, for the journey together, I wish new success for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia.

I want to express my gratitude and apologize to all the people whose trust has enabled me to engage in political activity and I may have been disappointed. I have tried to justify your trust as much as possible, I hope I have succeeded to some extent.

Special thanks to all the people who were by my side during the most difficult moments of my political activity, encouraged with their support and kind words. Nothing could be done without you ․․․ “Thank you and good health to all of you,” the deputy wrote.

Addressing the journalists, she noted that she would not make any other statements or comments on this topic. And she informed his Facebook friends that she would deactivate her account on the social network within ten days.

Let us remind you that Mane Tandilyan assumed the post of NA Deputy as a result of the December 9 special parliamentary elections as a member of the “Bright Armenia” faction.

She has been a member of the “Bright Armenia” party since December 15, 2015. On December 21st of the same year she was elected secretary of the party council, in 2017 she was elected a deputy of the RA National Assembly of the 6th convocation by the list of “Yelq” bloc. She was the only woman deputy elected in those elections by the rating system. She was the Deputy Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs. On February 19th, 2018, at the session of the Governing Council of “Bright Armenia” party, she was elected as a party’s Vice President.

On May 11, 2018, after the Velvet Revolution, she was appointed Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. On June 12, 2018, she resigned as Minister, opposing the introduction of a mandatory component of the funded pension system by the government. At the June 21st sitting of the government, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that he did not accept Mane Tandilyan’s resignation, the latter will continue to hold office.

On November 14, 2018, she resigned from the post of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia for the second time to participate in the early parliamentary elections to be held on December 9. She took the second place in the national list of the Bright Armenia party as she was nominated by the electoral system in the constituency No. 4, which includes the centers of Yerevan, Nork-Marash, Erebuni, Nubarashen, and was elected a deputy of the National Assembly of the 7th convocation. She was also the chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs.

P.S. It is known that Mane Tandilyan will be replaced by Stepan Stepanyan in the parliament. The party announces about this, clarifying that as soon as Mane Tandilyan’s parliamentary mandate received from the list of “Bright Armenia” party from constituency No. 4 is terminated in accordance with the law, it will pass to the candidate who received the most votes in the rating system.

It should be noted that as a result of such a decision of the party, the percentage of women in the faction drops to 17.6%, while Article 144, Clause 15 of the current Electoral Code provides certain guarantees to maintain the quota of 25/75 in the elected body.

In particular.

“Until January 1, 2021, during the National Assembly elections, the mandate of the deputy who resigned from the first part of the national electoral list or was terminated as a deputy within one week, it is given to the next candidate of the first part of the national electoral list of that party, and if as a result the number of representatives of any gender of the given faction decreases, being less than 20%, it is given to the next candidate of the first part of the national electoral list to the candidate, if any. ”

In other words, it turns out that the demand to “replace a woman MP with the next woman on the list” applies only to those elected on national lists, and Mane Tandilyan was once elected on a regional list.
