“Beijing +25. The Best Formula for Women’s and Girls’ Progress ”

Our campaign will be part of the 25 international processes in Beijing and we are joining the Generation Equality Generation slogan adopted by the UN Women as part of that process. From now on, all of our content will also be featured with the hashtags # Beijing 25, #Beijing 25 and #Generation Equality.

The start of the campaign is not accidental but symbolic. We have chosen December 10, International Human Rights Day, and thereby emphasize the fact that women’s rights are an integral part of human rights.

The campaign will continue throughout the next 2020 years, including all events planned within the framework of the Beijing + 25 international process. And they will be numerous next year, given the fact that next year will also mark the 5th anniversary of the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals, the 20th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women and UN Women: 10 years of structure formation.

During the campaign “Beijing +25. The best formula for women’s and girls’ progress:

 We will tell you about the achievements and shortcomings in all 12 directions outlined in the Beijing Action Plan, namely: Poverty, Education, Health, Violence, Armed Conflict, Economics, Decision Making, Institutional Mechanisms for Women, Human Rights, Media, Human Rights, Media , Girls.

We will speak exclusively on numbers and facts, citing not only official statistics but expert assessments of the implementation of the Beijing Action Plan in Armenia.

We will provide a platform for women to raise awareness of women’s rights issues in different areas.

 Follow our campaign and you will get the most accurate and interesting information about the Beijing +25 process in Armenia and around the world.as and present their successes.

About Beijing +25 international process

Remember, 2020 marks the 25th anniversary since 1995, when in 1995 more than 17,000 official delegates and 30,000 NGO activists from around the world, including Armenia, gathered in Beijing for the 4th UN World Summit on Women. 26 women from Armenia participated in the summit: 8 members of the official delegation and 18 representatives of non-governmental organizations. By the way, Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin I was one of the few clergymen who addressed the summit participants in those days, noting that injustices must be rectified and that women are equal before God and the Creator of men.

At the summit, delegates from 189 countries undertook to ensure that women should have equal rights and opportunities with men in all areas of life. This approach was enshrined in the Beijing Declaration and Action Plan adopted at the Summit, which became a “road map” in ensuring gender equality for the whole world. In essence, it is the Beijing Action Plan that introduced the Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities Resolution, which was designed to eliminate the gap between the proclaimed rights and their effective implementation. This resolution was endorsed in all subsequent program documents adopted in all post-Beijing processes: “Beijing +5”, “Beijing +10”, “Beijing +15” and “Beijing +20″…

In May this year, UN Women announced the launch of the Beijing + 25 process, in which states and non-governmental organizations around the world will summarize the achievements and objectives of the Beijing Declaration and Action Plan over the past 25 years, as well as outline new challenges and future actions. It should also be noted that in March this year Mher Margaryan, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, was elected Chairman of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in 2020-2021 for the 64th and 65th sessions to be held. This means that Armenia will chair the 64th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, discussing the achievements of 25 years of implementation of the Beijing Action Plan and outlining what to do next. This fact obliges both the Armenian government and the women’s NGO sector to be more actively involved in Beijing + 25 international process.
