Taguhi Tovmasyan: “I am ready to protect women’s rights if they want”

Journalists and editors are not so many among the candidates nominated by various political forces in the extraordinary parliamentary elections. One of them is Taguhi Tovmasyan, founder and editor of Zhoghovurd daily. She has been nominated by the “My Step” bloc in the constituency # 8, which includes the Gegharkunik region. During the interview with WomenNet.am, Taguhi Tovmasyan said that she has already stopped publishing the editorial work of Zhoghovurd daily for participating in the elections.

Do you think that with your participation you change stereotypes about women in politics?

– I think I already have a concrete result. In the Gegharkunik province, especially in Vardenis, women do not usually have pre-election headquarters. It is a men’s gathering where women have “nothing to do.” But in my pre-election campaign every day different women come and go. Women and girls are taking part in the campaign with me. Moreover, on November 24th, in Vardenis, for the first time, we organized a march of justice and equality that led women and girls. In other words, one can say that the stereotypes are already broken.

It is a fact that women’s involvement is small. But the guilty of the situation are not men, but women who act with less initiative.

“Dear women, your female intuition is never betrayed. Trust your intuition and choose those who have gone through a political way to deal with our motherland’s problems.
