Local Elections: Armenia to have a female mayor
Two out of 6 women have won a victory over Sunday’s local government elections. At midnight, the Central Electoral Commission published preliminary data.
For the first time in Armenia female mayor was elected. Diana Gasparyan, acting Mayor of Echmiadzin, received 8,076 votes. She is followed by non-party Suren Muradyan with 3699 votes.
Let us remind you that the fight here was quite hot. There were two women among 12 candidates. 180 voters voted for Susanna Margaryan In total, ten candidates failed to cross the 1000 threshold, gathering several hundred votes.
The next winning candidate is in the village of Nor Dvin, Ararat province. Community leader Lyudmila Petrova did not have a rival. In all other communities women candidates failed.
It should be reminded that on October 21st the elections of local self-government bodies, community head and council of elders were held in 49 communities of Aragatsotn, Ararat, Armavir, Gegharkunik, Lori, Kotayk, Shirak, Syunik and Tavush regions.
In 24 communities – regular, in 25 – snap elections were held. In seven communities council members of the Council of Elders were elected and in 43 communities – the head of community.
