Free Democrats support 30/70 gender proportions in electoral lists

Discussions on amendments to the Electoral Code are conducted not only with parliamentary but also extra-parliamentary forces. They also submitted their proposals to the Commission, which are also related to quoting. Particularly, the Free Democrats Party has proposed to fix the gender proportion of 30/70.

 

In an interview with WomenNet.am, the party’s vice president, Angela Khachatryan, mentioned that the quota for guaranteed women’s participation has always been one of the issues important for their party, and they have made that offer in 2016.

 

At the same time Angela Khachatryan mentioned that in parallel we should also understand that raising the quota artificially and precisely for the parties, as “all of us know very well that for objective reasons women’s involvement in politics is not great and it is largely dependent on women’s preferences. ” So, according to her, 30/70 is not an exaggeration or a reduced quota for this moment.

 

“As a young woman politician, I have always emphasized that both the promotion of women’s and youth’s political involvement and their involvement in political processes should be based not only on age and sex, but also on the qualitative characteristics they bring. They are professional and able to bring new ideas and approaches to their political team, “added our interlocutor.

 

At present, it is known that at least two women will fight for the post of Mayor of Yerevan, Naira Zohrabyan will head the list of Prosperous Armenia party and Zaruhi Postanjyan from Yerkir Tsirani party. Other names are also being circulated in an unofficial domain.
