The number of domestic violence cases has increased
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has published summary information on cases of domestic violence during 2017. Comparing them with data from 2016, it can be stated that the increase in the number of domestic violence has been registered, which can be explained to some extent by the fact that the problem goes out of the shadow.
Thus, 458 criminal cases of domestic violence were examined in the proceedings of the Investigation Committee in 2017, 8 of them in the proceedings of the General Directorate of Military Forces of the Republic of Armenia. For comparison, 359 criminal cases of domestic violence were examined in 2016, 18 of which were under the jurisdiction of the General Military Investigation Department of the RA Criminal Code.
In 2017, most cases of domestic violence involve violence by a spouse, beatings, as well as murder, kidnapping, and other criminal acts committed by a family member.
At the stage of preliminary investigation, 272 persons were involved in criminal cases, 142 of whom were aged 18-35, 127 were aged over 35 and 3 were 14-18 years old. 86 indictments have been sent to the court for 88 people.
As a result of the proceedings, 341 people were identified as victims, of which 17 were under the age of 12, 9 were aged 12-14, 14 were 14-16 years old, 1 was aged 16-18, 158 were 18-35 years old and 142 – older than 35.
