Tamara Shahnazaryan: “Some people still think that a woman cannot, she is just created for the family”
Tamara Shahnazaryan is a nurse from the Lejan community of Lori province. Apart from performing her duties as a nurse, Tamara has always been actively involved in the pre-election processes by supporting various candidates. This time, however, she needs the support of her fellow villagers, since she was nominated for the community council of the Lori Berd, which is being expanded.
Agarak, Bovadzor, Lejan Koghes, Hovnanadzor, Yaghdan, Svedlov, Urut, Lori Berd communities of the Stepanavan region will unite as a result of the elections to be held on November 5th.
“Although I am overwhelmed with both work and household duties, I am also a member of a parent committee at the school, but I have decided to run as a candidate for the Council of Elders to represent our community in the Council of Elders”, – says Tamara.
The proposal to nominate as a Council member candidate was first done by people from her community Lejan. The family members, however, did not welcome the wish of a young woman to become a council member.
“Some people still think that a woman cannot, she is only created for the family. But I do not agree. Why not: Why cannot woman, what’s the difference? We have female MPs, we have female heads of different structures, who are very active”, – she says.
