Zoya Gevorgyan: “I am ready to face any difficulty for the sake of our people to be able to correct their back”
On November 5th local self-government elections will be held in a number of larger communities in Gegharkunik province. Moreover, they will be held for the first time in the communities of Geghamasar, Vardenis and Shoghakat. We can say that there is a strong competition in all three places, but a tense struggle has taken place in Geghamasar community. The most populated communities are Pambak, Daranak, Areguni, Geghamasar, Avazan, Arpunk, Kakhakn, Tretuk, Kutakan, Sotk, Small Masrik, Kut, Norabak, Shatan, Jaghatsadzor, Shatjreq and Azat former communities.
Zoya Gevorgyan, the former mayor of Shatjreq, run by the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), claims for the post of head of community in the enlarged Geghamasar municipality. Her opponent is RPA member Hakob Avetyan. There is a hot fight between competitors, with mutual accusations and letters sent to the Prime Minister. However, whoever is elected a difficult job will be expected. The United Community includes not only 17 settlements, but also a fairly large area, where the settlements in the outskirts are 30-40 km away, mostly inhabited by our compatriots deported from Azerbaijan, borderline, weakly developed and with numerous socio-economic unresolved problems.
Zoya Gevorgyan has passed a vast working and patriotic path. She is not only a village headman, but also a female freedom fighter who courageously fought in self-defense battles in the village of Khtsaberd in Artsakh also saving numerous lives.
Now she strongly believs that the difficult situation of those communities is much more connected with bad management than the lack of funds.
