Domestic Violence Prevention Bill: For and Against – Opinions
The deadline for submission of proposals on the draft law “On the Protection of Domestic Violence and Protection of victims of Domestic Violence” published in E-draft.am has been completed. The proposals were included in the summary paper for further discussion and possible additions. It should be noted that not only the proposals, but also the opinions on the project can be found in the summary.
The equality of votes against the bill published in E-draft.am was often changed, but the vote was overwhelmed by the prevailing majority. The picture is 57% against and 43% for. At the same time, the clash of opinions on this project is happening not only on the on-line space, but on different platforms and in a heated atmosphere.
“It is evident that they did not understand the law or did not read it”
Davit Harutyunyan, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, commented on the tense situation created during the public discussion of the project in Matenadaran recently. “The point is that from their speeches it is clear that they did not understand the law or did not read it. There were interesting ideas, but one could ask a question again. The purpose of the discussion was question-answer when people were unaware of the issue and could hear the answer and the public discussions are still ongoing”. The minister noted that the government will continue with the same stubborn steps to adopt the bill. “The problem is in our society and naturally it should be solved,” the minister said.
